Domain Privacy is being switched to Domain Protection

What is Domain Protection?

Domain Protection is an advanced security product that protects your domain from abuse, unauthorized transfers, and accidental losses. It replaces the previous domain privacy service and offers additional security features.

Domain Protection includes three protection components:

1. Transfer Protection

The AuthCode of your domain is only visible when you release the transfer protection using a security code.
You receive automatic notifications as soon as someone tries to access your AuthCode.

2. Recovery Service

If your domain is accidentally deleted, we take care of the recovery including fees charged by the registry.
The recovery depends on the deadlines and requirements of the respective registry.
It applies with an active and paid Domain Protection contract and up to 30 days after the contract ends, provided the contract was active and paid until then.

3. Proof of Ownership

You can download an official document that confirms your ownership.
Includes: domain name, complete owner data, and issue date.

Why is the switch to Domain Protection happening?

We want to offer you a modern, reliable protection that covers typical risks around domains better than the previous domain privacy service.

Due to the implementation of the NIS2 Directive in Germany, DENIC as well as other domain registries have tightened their rules. The goal is to have a clearly identifiable and reachable responsible party for every domain – no longer just a technical forwarding address. NIS2 was introduced because the EU wants to strengthen cybersecurity, reduce abuse, and make responsibilities clearer.

What changes for me?

Domain Privacy will be automatically switched to Domain Protection at the next contract renewal.

Important: With the switch to Domain Protection, we will remove the previously stored anonymized email address for your domain and instead store your contact email address. The respective registry will then send a verification email to which you must confirm the new email address. Please make sure to complete this confirmation, as otherwise the registry may temporarily suspend your domain.

What does Domain Protection cost?

Price: €0.99 per month (including VAT)
Billing is done annually

Can I prevent the switch?

Yes.
If you do not want to use Domain Protection, you can simply cancel the existing Domain Privacy service in the customer area. In this case, no automatic switch will be made.

What happens if a cancellation is already in place?

Existing cancellations for your domain or the Domain Privacy service remain valid.
You can revoke them at any time if you wish to continue using the services.
